Building Shaker’s Future Together

During my tenure as Mayor of Shaker Heights, it has been an honor and a privilege to serve the residents of Shaker Heights, the city that I have called home for nearly 30 years. After being appointed and subsequently elected mayor in 2018, I am now seeking a full four-year term.

This has been an exciting time to watch as new economic development opportunities blossom in our city, and I remain steadfastly committed to continuing this momentum.

Phase I of the Van Aken District is now substantially complete, with many new retail stores and restaurants already opened and nearly full occupancy in the Upstairs Van Aken apartments and in the District office building. But this is just the start. Shaker Rocks, the new rock climbing gym opened in May and brings added vitality to the District neighborhood. Phase II, which will involve new residential housing along Farnsleigh Road, will be next. In addition, planning for the redevelopment of the Lee Road business corridor also is on the horizon – and there is much more to come.

I also am passionate about increasing efficiencies in our government and modernizing operations, as well as promoting regionalism and sustainability. To that end, I helped convene “Forward Together,” a joint City, Schools and Library initiative to develop a comprehensive, long-term, community facilities plan.

Finally, I am committed to building upon Shaker’s tradition as an open and welcoming community by focusing on diversity, equity and inclusion for all Shaker residents. With expanded quality housing options, and strong support for our excellent schools, parks and recreation programs, I am confident that we will continue to attract and retain residents who contribute to our vibrant city.

I respectfully ask for your vote on November 5 so that we can keep building Shaker’s future together!
